Will There Be A Tablet For Specific Purposes?

Despite numerous claims that a tablet can become a working tool, quite few tech companies are really determined to target some specific audience.  Most tablet manufacturers have decided that to target a general consumer market is the best way-out as it demands quite little effort and embraces a huge audience. As a result the next year we’ll have a range of devices supporting the same functionality and distinguished only by the OS installed and the producer brand at some place on the tablet case.

Manufacturers which keep to the opposite strategy are few. One of such examples is Cisco’s Cius tablet which is also to hit the market at the beginning of 2011. The tablet is clearly positioned as a business market tablet providing a range of video conferencing options and supporting some Cisco's internal business software products.  Cius is quite reasonably advertised as an accompanying device, a side gadget to a PC, a laptop or even an iPad, which main aim is to ensure secure and reliable  communication within an enterprise.

But, in fact such examples are really few.  Asus Eeepad  is similar to Amazon's Kindle though the company's representatives call it a table. LCD TFT display and a 0.1s screen refresh rate, which is far superior to what E Ink displays can manage make it more of an e-reader, than a real tablet. Though a stylus can be an advantage.

RIM is also going to unveil its Blackpad table which also should be an accompanying device for Blackberry users focusing on the general consumer market.  A range of other tablets from minor producers also support  rather the general functionality than target some specific needs.
It is quite clear that some companies are really lacking technological abilities to introduce something with a more serious functionality, targeting the needs of some professions and trades.  But, in fact, we should be prepared for that. First computing machines were able just to carry serious, multi level computing equations and only later they took up solving more serious problems. It may happen with tablets in the  same way. First of all some simple entertainment and gaming and later more serious tasks can be solved with its help.
